Reflection and Growth…

Back in Spring 2021, my friend and coworker, Kelsie, gave me plant cuttings that she had rooted. They were literally a stem with a leaf or two and a few baby roots. I took them home and planted them. The plant cuttings continued to grow very slowly… and after not much growth in a year, I finally Googled how to actually take care of a POTHOS, moved it to a different location and watered it correctly. Low and behold, it started to THRIVE! It continued to grow and grow and GROW! 

Fast forward to now (late 2022) I was recently watering this plant that has grown exponentially over the past year and it occurred to me that this plant and I had something in common… Over this past year we had both GROWN more than I had ever thought POSSIBLE! All this time we had been planting our ROOTS and making them STRONG and then we both just took off! At the beginning, I had never opened an Adobe product or knew what a vector was and I look back and see how much I have grown, learned, and I now use vectors with ease every day! 

It is the perfect METAPHOR for my SURFACE PATTERN DESIGN (SPD) journey. I spent a lot of time figuring out what really spoke to me and lit me up. I have always known that it was creating/crafting but nothing felt quite right and sustainable until I found SPD and now I hope I have enough time and energy to do all the things I can IMAGINE!

When we follow our hearts and under the right conditions, we can not only survive, but THRIVE!
