Being a Tourist in My Backyard!
DC Hidden Gem: 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial
Part of why I wanted to move to DC was so that I could be a tourist at home (and I came from a small town and really wanted to experience life in a big city!)
While I know that there are so many interesting sites in DC that I will never discover, I thought I knew the National Mall pretty well.
My husband wanted to go for a run so I went along too (I don't run... at least I haven't in a really long time🤣).
I took a picture of a sign and then decided to actually look at it... The 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial caught my eye and I was shocked to see that it was on the Mall! I have walked near it so many times and NEVER EVEN KNEW IT WAS THERE!
I am now obsessed with this little paradise off the beaten path. Willows are some of my favorite trees and always bring me joy. The ducks and swans were so active and fun to watch. From eating, bathing, hanging out with their littles, squawking, giving me the side eye... they kept me entertained!
So you think you know everything about where you live? Look at it from a tourist's POV... just maybe you will discover a hidden gem like I did.
I'd love to hear your story or if you know of a hidden gem in DC, please share!
